With advances in robotic engineering, richer nations are planning to wage war on enemies with almost no losses to servicemen and women on the battlefield.
As technology progresses and costs drop, there is to become an ever increasing reliance on robots on the battle field and in the air.
Military men will of course welcome this and in the first instance, it will appear good that ones soldiers are saved and ones enemies are destroyed. Yet to many anti-war people, this is a frightening escalation as one of the principle things which citizens object to, is seeing soldiers returned home in coffins draped in flags. Remove this, and people hardly notice conflict in far off lands.
The US Department of Defense is aiming to replace over coming years most of its battlefield soldiers with advanced robotic machinery. By 2010, 33% of its 'deep strike' aircraft will be unmanned aerial vehicles. By 2015, a similar one third of ground vehicles will be remote controlled.
The US Navy is similarly planning to have fleets of uncrewed boats and subs.
In November 2002, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) impressively destroyed a car in Yemen carrying that country's Al-Qaida chief and five accomplices.
By 2010, robotic aerial and terrestrial vehicles will become increasingly armed solely for the purpose of entering hostile zones. The following stage is to allow combined vehicles to co-ordinate attacks on enemy targets. For instance, a ground vehicle retaliating by returning fire on enemy combatants could itself, call in an over head UAV to precision bomb the enemy.
All unmanned vehicles are currently operated by remote control, but technology is near ready which will enable robots to self determine threats and deal with them themselves.
IT SEEMS THAT OUR UNIVERSE BECOMES MORE STRANGE BY THE MINUTE. THE LATEST GROUND BREAKING NEWS IN COSMOLOGY AND ASTROPHYSICS SUGGESTS THAT A SINGLE OBJECT CAN BE IN TWO PLACES AT THE SAME TIME AND EVEN THAT ONE OF THESE CAN BE DESTROYED AND LEAVE ITS MIRROR IMAGE BEHIND.
Quantum gravity describes 'a theory for everything', and strives to unify quantum mechanics and general relativity.
Three decades ago, British scientist Stephen Hawking demonstrated theoretically that black holes were not all consuming, but emitted radiation. This meant that black holes would eventually evaporate in time when nothing else entered them. This emission was termed Hawking Radiation.
A paradox arose, as the stuff within a black hole could not leak back into the cosmos unless it could escape the enormous gravity of the hole and even then, it would need to travel faster than light, as such holes also consumed light energy. That is why they look 'black'. No light returns.
So if a black hole evaporated, what happens to the infinitely crushed contents?
Physics does not allow the contents to escape or for the hole to disappear with no trace of the contents. Researchers call this the 'black hole information paradox'.
For thirty years, Hawking was convinced that 'information' was destroyed in black hole evaporation. He changed his mind when it was suggested that an object could be destroyed in a black hole, but not the information about its existence.
Simplified, two people looking at an object from different points each see the same object, but in a different way - it is still however the same object. Not unlike space travel at speed. What happens is 'relative' to that person at that point in time and space. Possibly therefore, our universe as we see it might in fact be a sort of grand hologram.
If person b) could be just inside the event horizon of a black hole looking out and person a) could be just outside the hole looking in, at an object entering the hole, the person a) would see that object approaching the event horizon (point of no return), but slowing down due to the time stretching effects of gravity in general relativity. Person a) however will never see the object cross the event horizon. Instead it will be annihilated by Hawking Radiation.
Now importantly, Person a) assumes that all information ever relating to that object is also destroyed and is ejected by the radiation leaking back into space. Any remains of the object is sucked into the hole.
Person b) inside the hole, will never see the object's destruction. As light is sucked in, he would in theory see the object still enter the hole - the light carrying the image of the object sucked into the hole will portray that image. The view of the destruction is carried on light outside of the hole and is never seen by the person inside the hole. The view of the object inside the event horizon remains the same. Thus, the 'information' relating to the object and the object still exists. Outside the hole, the object is destroyed and the information about it is contained in its ashes as they are placed back in space.
So in effect, the same object is destroyed but still exists. It is in two places at once.
But it is not just black holes which exhibit this ability to allow one object to be alive and dead at the same time or in and out of existence at the same time.
There are many places in space, where boundaries (similar to event horizons) occur. Anything that accelates in space creates an horizon, as slower things can never catch up.
Most cosmologists simply say these days that there is nothing beyond the horizon of our universe. Space and time doesn't exist, so there is nothing. However space-time itself is accelerating, causing an horizon at the universe's 'edge'. As it can now be proved that something can exist both inside and outside a black hole, it may be possible in time to suggest what might be beyond the cosmic horizon.
The mere fact too that light does not escape from black holes once sucked in over the event horizon further suggests that travel in excess of light speed just by travelling faster and faster is impossible to achieve.
The mass of a craft increases as it accelerates towards light speed and if it could reach light speed, it would have infinite mass. Infinity cannot be reached.
The Hubble Space Telescope (HST) has found what appears to be planets which travel around their stars faster than an Earth day of 24 hours, making their years shorter than a day.
So far, 16 stars near to our Milky Way galaxy's centre have light which dims by up to 10% as suspected Jupiter sized planets orbit and blot out that light.
Five of these 16 planets are going around small, dim stars in periods of between 10 hours and 23 hours. The remaining planets interestingly are orbiting bright stars and have orbits exceeding 1.2 days.

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT APPLICATION FORCES MINISTRY OF DEFENCE TO RELEASE CLASSIFIED DOCUMENTS.
The media has been in a frenzy this last week (c) Aug' 1st '07.
Documentation released demonstrates that the MoD has been compiling records and investigating 'certain' UFO sightings and though the results are inconclusive regarding its researches, the MoD still decides to publish that UFOs which cannot be identified are not of extraterrestrial origin. Much of the document, some 450 pages long, is still classified.
I have been approached this week by BBC Radio Wales to appear on a radio show on Aug' 7th to discuss Welsh UFO sightings as mentioned in the report.
The welsh language publication Golwg has also requested an interview.
Seemingly some 33 UFO sightings in North Wales have been classified 'eyes only' and 'Top secret' in North Wales over a ten year period.
Readers may like to know that after arranging to speak live on the Roy Noble Show on BBC Radio Wales, I was asked by the researcher NOT TO SPEAK ABOUT THE BERWYN INCIDENT. Of course, I refused to do this.
It then transpired that I received an email from BBC Radio Wales telling me that they'd found someone else to speak. So that was that.
Unfortunately, the researcher had contacted Margaret Fry who hadn't realised we knew each other. She was asked to speak, but was not told that the BBC had already approached me.
What occured next was laughable really. Margaret Fry contacted me to ask if she could have some snippets of info' to use in the programme. It was then, that she discovered that I had previously been approached.
She was not happy. More so, because BBC Radio Wales asked her to avoid the Berwyn issue. Rather than refuse, she cooperated, and once live on air, took the opportunity to mention Berwyn and myself.
The show then had a phone in with mostly persons from South Wales telling what they had seen in the day and night sky.
